History
Rock'n Coke was first held in 2003 as Turkey's largest open-air music festival, sponsored by Coca-Cola and organized by Pozitif. Initially focused solely on rock music, the festival expanded over the years to include other genres such as electronic, indie, and alternative music. The main venue for the festival was Hezarfen Airfield in Istanbul.
Held annually since 2003, Rock'n Coke took a break in 2009 due to organizational reasons but returned in 2010. After another hiatus in 2012, the festival was last held in 2013. The event planned for 2014 was canceled, and the festival has not been organized since then.
Over the years, Rock'n Coke hosted world-renowned bands such as Radiohead, Placebo, Muse, The Cure, and Linkin Park, becoming a cultural event among the youth in Turkey. During the years it was held, the festival offered a comprehensive experience with stages dedicated to electronic music, camping areas, and various sponsorship activities in addition to the main stage.
The last edition of the festival was held in 2013. Planned for 2015, Rock'n Coke was canceled by the organizing company Pozitif on the grounds of “searching for an innovative format”. However, the fact that the festival was not organized again was associated with the social and political atmosphere in Turkey at the time. Especially in the aftermath of the 2013 Gezi Park protests, restrictions and crackdowns on youth culture and outdoor events led to the interruption of many cultural events.
